Red Wings assign Givani Smith, Evgeny Svechnikov to Grand Rapids

On Wednesday afternoon, the Red Wings announced that they have assigned Givani Smith back to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The news comes one day after the team assigned Evgeny Svechnikov to GR to make way for the return of Adam Erne from injured reserve.

The Smith move comes as the Red Wings create a spot for newly-acquired Brendan Perlini.

In his first call-up to the NHL club, Smith made his NHL debut, playing against the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 25.

He skated in three games with the Wings this past week, registering four shots on goal and three hits while averaging 10:32 in ice-time.
