The Detroit Red Wings are giving fans the chance to say goodbye to The Joe in a unique fashion.

The Wings are holding a “Paint The Ice” event on May 10, where the Hockeytown faithful will be allowed on the ice to paint personal messages onto the ice surface of Joe Louis Arena.

“As the Red Wings continue to prepare for the future at Little Caesars Arena and events at Joe Louis Arena wind down, fans have expressed overwhelming interest in making another lasting memory at The Joe,” said Kevin Brown, Director of Community Relations & Detroit Red Wings Foundation, in a release. “The ‘Paint the Ice’ event provides a unique, family-friendly opportunity for fans to paint their farewell message on The Joe’s ice surface, all while supporting a great cause.”

For a small donation to the Detroit Red Wings Foundation, you can reserve a 30-minute time slot between 3 and 8 p.m. on May 10. Time slots are limited to 150 participants per half hour; paint and paintbrushes will be provided.
