The North American Hockey League picks four players to be the league’s stars of the week, and this time around, two Michigan netminders were selected.

Grand Ledge native Colt Hanks and Livonia native Alec Calvaruso were selected as divisional stars of the week, the NAHL announced today.

Hanks, 18, made 35 saves in his Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights’ 3-1 win over the division-leading Aston Rebels Saturday night.

“Colt came into a big situation in a division game for us Saturday,” said Knights coach Tom Kowal. “Aston is a talented team and we needed a strong effort in our own zone and in goal to come up with two points. Colt stepped up and gave us a solid performance. The Knights are happy to be heading into the break with a win and Colt played a major role in that.”

Hanks, a Lansing Capitals and Meijer AAA product, has a 5-4 record with a 90.0 save percentage.

Calvaruso, meanwhile, helped his Lone Star Brahmas increase their lead in the South Division with a weekend home sweep of the Wichita Falls Wildcats. The 18-year-old goaltender gave up just two goals on the weekend, stopping 34 of the 36 shots sent his way.

“Obviously he made some huge saves,” said Lone Star head coach Dan Wildfong. “Wichita Falls is one of the best offensive teams in the NAHL and we shut them down to just four goals all weekend. We had some pretty good goaltending by Alec.”

On the season, Calvaruso – a Detroit Catholic Central alum – has a 12-4 record with a 2.17 goals-against average and 91.2 save percentage.
