Shaved Ice – April 19

Friday edition of Shaved Ice. One of these days, the Rebecca Black song is going to be in our Highlight Reel. Just you watch.

The Plymouth Whalers are in London, as they take on the Knights in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals tonight. Here’s our preview for the huge OHL series.

The Red Wings get back at it tomorrow night out in Vancouver. The latest NHL standings have the Wings in 10th place, after a tiebreaker loss to Dallas for the ninth spot. Detroit finishes the season in Dallas – that game could decide which team makes the playoffs.

The Grand Rapids Griffins know they’re in the AHL Playoffs, but they’re still trying to figure out where they will officially end up. Here’s a breakdown of where the Wings’ AHL affiliate stands with three games left in the regular season.

The Griffins just called up forwards Willie Coetzee, Andrej Nestrasil and Trevor Parkes, defenseman Max Nicastro and goaltender Jordan Pearce to the Grand Rapids Griffins from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.

Tommy Lasorda with the snub on former Wolverines star Jack Johnson…

Sportsnet is reporting that Lasorda did it on purpose, because “you don’t talk to the competition.” Pretty intense for a ceremonial puck drop, Tommy.

Traverse City native Zach Redmond has been assigned to the AHL for a conditioning stint. Can’t believe that he’s skating again so soon. The MiHockey staff is thrilled that his recovery has gone so well.

Former Whalers netminder Michal Neuvirth got attacked by his own net.

Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson is back on the ice just two months after a nasty, nasty cut he suffered in a game against Pittsburgh.

The Penguins and Bruins had to cancel their morning skates due to the latest in the Boston Marathon bombing situation. Their game has been postponed, as well.

Have a great weekend, everyone.
