Bearded Ice – May 25

Bearded Ice, Shaved Ice meets the NHL playoff tradition of not shaving.

MiHockey writer Stefan Kubus here with you on the last workday before the Memorial Day weekend.

Quick Hits

Look out, there’s a new Junior league in town. As we broke the story this morning, the Midwest Junior Hockey League (MWJHL) has announced its establishment as a Tier II league that will boast 14 teams, six of which are from the Mitten.

Hats off to Michigan natives Alex Kile (Troy), Sheldon Dries (Macomb), and Nicholas Schilkey (Smiths Creek) on winning the USHL Clark Cup with the Green Bay Gamblers. They’re our Michi-gamers of the night. The trio is also college-bound, too. Kile is committed to the University of Michigan, while Dries will be attending Western Michigan, and Schilkey is set to play for Ohio State.

Outside the Mitten

We already know that Jared Knight, Austin Watson, and the London Knights are advancing to Memorial Cup championship, but who will they face? That will be decided by the end of the night, as Shawinigan and Saint John face off in the semifinal at 7 p.m. Saint John took the first meeting by a score of 4-1.

The New York Rangers will try to keep their Cup hopes alive, as they head to New Jersey to face the Devils in Game 6, down 3-2 in the series. Trenton native Andy Greene and the Devils will look to close it out at home.
