Quick hits

The USA U-17 team took on Russia for a chance at a gold medal yesterday, but they fell short 7-4. Sterling Heights native Evan Allen scored the opening goal in the contest, but the American squad couldn’t take advantage of the early lead. We’ll have more coverage of the game later today.

The Whalers traveled out to Saginaw for a showdown with their rivals, the Spirit, on Wednesday. The bus trip didn’t bother them; the Whalers posted a 5-0 win. Stefan Noesen had two goals and an assist, Garrett Meurs had a goal and two assists, and Alex Aleardi and Chris Albertini contributed goals as well.

Outside the Mitten

In a reminder to both stay as safe as you can on the ice, and to do the same for others, we share the latest about Jack Jablonski, a Minnesota HS player badly injured in a game last week. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jablonski and his family. Every person in this world deserves the chance to play hockey, and to be safe while doing so.

Tim Thomas had another big game for the Boston Bruins last night. I might as well just have this saved and ready for copy/paste every day. He’s our Michi-gamer of the night.
