Red Wings’ Mike Green out 3-5 weeks; Filip Hronek being recalled from Grand Rapids

By @StefanKubus –

The Red Wings received another blow on Friday, as coach Jeff Blashill announced Mike Green will be out 3-5 weeks with a lower-body injury.

Green had accumulated 16 points through 23 games this season from the back end.

As a result, the Wings recalled the red-hot Filip Hronek from Grand Rapids to help provide some offense in Green’s absence.

Hronek, a 21-year-old second-round pick of Detroit in 2016, has recorded five goals and 18 points through 20 games in his second AHL season. Those 18 points lead Grand Rapids in scoring by a defenseman and rank tenth among all AHL defensemen.

The Saginaw Spirit alum started the season in Detroit due to injuries on the blue line at that point, where he posted a goal and two assists in six games.

Blashill said he expects Hronek to be in the lineup Friday night against Brady Tkachuk and the Ottawa Senators.
