Team USA falls to Finland as preliminary play wraps up in Men’s World Championship

By @StefanKubus –

It wasn’t the ideal way of ending preliminary play and entering elimination territory, but perhaps it was a wake-up call.

Team USA fell 6-2 to Finland on Tuesday to finish second in Group B with four regulation wins, two overtime wins and one loss. Captain Patrick Kane potted a goal and an assist, while Derek Ryan recorded the other goal. Ryan’s fellow Carolina Hurricanes teammate Sebastian Aho led the way for Finland with a hat trick.

With the Team USA loss, Finland finished first in Group B, while Sweden won all its games on the other side in Group A.

Team USA will face the Czech Republic in their May 17 quarterfinal matchup.
