Rochester native Christian Wolanin had a big weekend for his North Dakota squad, and his college hockey conference took notice.

The National Collegiate Hockey Conference named Wolanin its defenseman of the week, after the Fighting Hawks blueliner excelled at both ends of the ice in a weekend sweep against Omaha.

On Friday, the Ottawa prospect scored a power-play goal, posted a +1 rating and helped the penalty kill go 3-for-3 in a lopsided 9-1 win.

On Saturday, the former captain of the Muskegon Lumberjacks posted a career-high three points as he notched a pair of first-period goals (one on the power play) and added an assist later in on in a 7-3 win.

He finished the weekend with two goals, two assists, a +3 rating and three shots on goal, while helping the UND PK to an 8-for-9 mark on the weekend.
