It’s more a report of when, rather than who.

Ansar Khan of MLive is reporting that the Red Wings will be holding a press conference next week to introduce Jeff Blashill as their new head coach.

With the Grand Rapids Griffins’ season coming to a close last night, the Red Wings can now make what has been suspected ever since Mike Babcock left – that Blashill would be the new Detroit head coach – official.

Blashill, a Sault Ste. Marie native and former Ferris State goaltender, has been the head coach of the Griffins for the last three years. He was an assistant coach under Babcock during the 2011-12 season. Prior to that year, he served as head coach for the USHL’s Indiana Ice and the Western Michigan Broncos.
