Shaved Ice – May 31

Happy Friday.

Today is team photo and locker clean-out day for the Red Wings. We will be heading down there for one last chance to talk to the players before they scatter for the summer. Always an interesting day.

The Griffins are back at it tonight, taking on the Barons in Oklahoma City for Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals.

Grand Rapids will be getting a little help for the game, as Gustav Nyquist, Joakim Andersson and Jordan Pearce have joined the Wings’ AHL affiliate after the conclusion of the Wings’ season.

Celebrating some skilled netminders…

This poor guy had a lot of trouble voting for Martin Brodeur in the EA NHL cover contest – check it out. Hilarious stuff.

The third round of the NHL playoffs starts tomorrow. Chicago, the 2010 Cup champs, take on the Kings, the defending Cup champs, in the Western Conference Finals. Meanwhile, the Penguins, Cup champs in ’09, will take on the Bruins, who won the Cup in 2011. I’m picking Hawks and Pens.

Not often that you see a team about to begin the conference finals sign one of their players to an extension, but that just happened out in Hollywood – the Kings have inked Robyn Regehr to a two-year deal.

The NHL Combine is currently taking place in Toronto; follow along with the NHL.com blog for the event.

Jim Nill and the Dallas Stars are talking to Lindy Ruff, Alain Vigneault, Willie Desjardins (the club’s AHL affiliate head coach) and Dallas Eakins (Toronto Marlies coach) for their head coach vacancy.

Ding, ding, ding.

And something we shared yesterday, in case you missed it.

We’ll be down at JLA later today.
