Shaved Ice – April 15

Welcome back to the work/school week.

Big win by the Red Wings last night, as they posted a 3-0 road victory over Nashville. Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen and Justin Abdelkader scored for Detroit, while Jimmy Howard stopped all 22 shots he saw to earn the shutout.

Dan DeKeyser also picked up his first career point, assisting on Zetterberg’s second-period goal. Scoring line reads Zetterberg from DeKeyser and Datsyuk – not bad company for a major achievement for a Michigan-born player.

The win puts the Wings in the No. 8 spot in the West as they battle to keep their playoff streak alive.

The Whalers took care of business once again, and now they’ve got a date with the London Knights in the Western Conference Finals. Plymouth eliminated Owen Sound in six games after a Sunday 3-1 victory on the road.

Despite losing in OT to Peoria, the Griffins have secured their spot in the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Todd Krygier has officially resigned from his head coaching duties at Novi High School with the hopes of moving onto the college ranks.

Highlights from last night’s Red Wings win…

Three Michigan natives helped Yale University win their first national title in school history on Saturday. Click here to see the three who are the latest Michigan-born players to earn the right to call themselves NCAA champions.

Spoiler alert – their captain is Andrew Miller, former Mr. Hockey winner. We’ve got a special article on him right here.

Evan Allen, Mike McCarron and Tyler Motte all found the scoresheet in Team USA’s exhibition win over Canada to get the ball rolling in the right direction over in Sochi for the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Under-18 Championship.

Former Whalers goaltender Justin Peters absolutely robbed Jaromir Jagr over the weekend.

Former Spartan Chris Mueller got stuck in the net against the Red Wings this weekend.

We’ll see you around at some point.
