Shaved Ice – November 19

Welcome back to the work week. At least there’s a national holiday built into this one.

Milford native Blake Pietila had a big weekend for the Michigan Tech Huskies, making him our Michi-gamer this morning. The Huskies posted two wins over Bemidji State – crucial points in the WCHA standings.

However, the Huskies were one of only a few Michigan-based NCAA schools that had good weekends. We compiled how all the teams did right here.

It was an especially difficult weekend for the Michigan Wolverines, who were swept by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish; Friday night’s loss came in front of 93 Michigan hockey alums during the Yost Ice Arena rededication ceremony.

The Grand Rapids Griffins continue to roll, having posted their sixth straight win Friday night against Lake Erie. Tomas Jurco almost set a Griffins’ record with two goals in a nine-second span during the third period (team record is seven).

The Plymouth Whalers picked up a 3-2 win in Ottawa yesterday, giving them a share of first place in the OHL’s West Division.

Here are the highlights from Ferris State’s Saturday night win over Bowling Green.

Apparently Gary Bettman discovered how bad he looked when he asked for a two-week break from negotiations – the two sides are expected to meet tonight now.

A report from Philly.com suggests that Flyers owner Ed Snider may be frustrated with how Bettman is handling the lockout situation, and that he may start stirring things up. If the owners start changing their tune, maybe we really will see hockey this year.

Ryan Murray, the second overall pick from this summer’s NHL Draft, suffered a shoulder injury in a WHL game over the weekend. Not good news for Blue Jackets fans.

Bill Simmons wonders aloud what it would be like to impeach Bettman. Not a bad idea…

Members of the Griffins take over an Italian restaurant in this feature from GriffVision.

See you all tomorrow.
