Shaved Ice – October 15

Hello Monday, nice to see you again…kind of.

Have you voted in our contest yet? We’re giving away two sticks and four bobbleheads for people to fill out our ballot – hockey-related questions, of course – because after all, it is election season.

The Wolverines bounced back on Friday night, avenging a OT loss to RIT with a dominating 7-3 win in their second game of their two-night series. We were at both games, check out the Friday night recap here. The loss bumped them down two spots in the USCHO national rankings, however – Michigan is now at No. 5.

It was a rough weekend trip for the Spartans, as they lost both their games to top-ranked Minnesota. I’m sure it was an eye-opening experience for a team with 12 new players.

Northern Michigan posted an impressive two-game sweep over Wisconsin to kick off their season on a high note.

Ferris State tied Rensselaer 2-2 on Saturday night in New York, after a loss the night before.

Western Michigan recorded a 3-2 win over St. Lawrence Saturday night to earn a series split.

Michigan Tech posted eight on the Lake State Lakers in the latest edition of their in-state rivalry after the Lakers had won Game 1.

The Plymouth Whalers fell 3-2 in OT to the Greyhounds in their annual Pink Out Game.

And the Saginaw Spirit lost 5-3 in a Sunday bout with Brampton.

Former Mr. Hockey winner Mackenzie MacEachern is our Michi-gamer for the weekend after he scored a game-winner in OT against the NTDP. Read more about it right here.

Sad to hear that Grosse Pointe native and former Spartan Corey Tropp suffered a bad leg injury this weekend, hope he can heal up fast.

Because it feels like we should have been able to watch his magic on the ice by now…

The NHL and the NHLPA are expected to begin talking again tomorrow. TSN is reporting that both of the Fehr brothers will be in a room with Gary Bettman and Bill Daly, so maybe…just maybe…they can make some progress on this thing.

Sid the Kid says that Connor McDavid has it all, and that McDavid reminds him of himself at that age.

Sometimes the lockout isn’t all bad – Matt Cooke finally has the chance to coach his daughter’s soccer team. Say what you want about Cooke – he’s not a very popular guy around the league – but it’s pretty cool that he’s being a regular dad right now.

A WCHA ref was arrested over the weekend for making jokes about bombs in an airplane. Yep, not making this up. I like to think it was something like this.

See you all tomorrow!
