Checking out Warrior’s new Covert DT1 stick

With Warrior releasing its newest line of sticks, the Covert line, its true one-piece construction aims to make your shot scream anything but covert.

The Warrior Covert Dagger Taper, or DT, brings something to the table that Warrior has never done before, as Warrior senior product manager of sticks Keith Perera explained.

“Warrior, in the past for our sticks, have always done an individual name and individual unique graphic for each model stick in the line,” Perera said. “For the first time now, we’re going to a platform, meaning there’s multiple sticks in the line within one platform. Basically, within the line of product, they are all in the same family.”

Yet the Covert DT1 – released to the general public today – is the top-end model in the line. Warrior is bringing its all-new technology to even the lowest-end model. Perera said Warrior has completely redesigned the blade with features intended specifically to retain that “pop” and “brand new, off-the-rack” feeling that often wears off after repeated use of a stick. At the same time, through engineering and testing, Warrior is hoping to change the current story of lighter, top-end sticks on the market today by creating a lighter product that is also much more durable.

“We’ve added aramid wrap around the bottom edge of the blade because that’s where all the impact occurs when you take a slap shot, snap shot, or when you’re calling for a pass. The core of the blade is a very stable core, so when you receive a pass, it doesn’t wobble around and has a nice, solid feel to it.

“Twin-spar, which is one of the major new technologies we’ve developed for this blade, basically builds an I-beam structure made out of composite between the front face of the blade and back face of the blade. It helps keep the blade more stable and much more durable, but here’s the kicker – it’s lighter weight than what we’ve had in the past.”

Perhaps the most unique, technical innovation entering the market with the Covert DT is that even the lower-end models feature a true, one-piece construction, something the market has yet to see.

“From the DT1 to the DT5, the same way with the Dagger Taper, you get true one construction, too. And that hasn’t been done before. It’s pretty mind-blowing because the process of molding a stick as one piece is very complicated, so to have it on a $79 or $99 stick is a pretty impressive thing to have.

“We wanted to make sure that every consumer that we have buying any stick in our Covert line got the best stick for that price.”

For those concerned about the less-expensive Covert models being too heavy as those sticks typically are, when compared to other sticks on the market, the one-piece construction makes even the lower-end Covert DT sticks lighter than you would think.

“The lower price points, like $79 and $99, those sticks tend to be more blade heavy because the whole stick is heavy due to more fiberglass content. When you remove that fuse point where the blade connects to the shaft, it removes a lot of the weight down low in the stick.”
