Trouba’s family releases statement saying defenseman will attend Michigan

Rumors have been swirling through the last few days that Michigan recruit and recent top-10 NHL pick Jacob Trouba had received a cash offer to play for the Kitchener Rangers and forgo his college commitment.

The Trouba family released a statement today, which was obtained by MiHockey via e-mail. The release reads as follows:

“There is absolutely no truth or merit to the recent media reports that the Kitchener Rangers have offered Jacob any remuneration. We have the utmost respect for the Kitchener Rangers and those that choose the CHL as an option, but Jacob will be attending the University of Michigan next fall as a student athlete.”

At the NHL Draft on June 22, Trouba told MiHockey that being drafted would not change his commitment status.

“I’ve always been a little bit of a Wolverines fan growing up,” Trouba said. “When I visited there, I just kind of fell in love with the campus, and everyone around it and the rink. It’s a pretty special place, and the education you get there is one of a kind, so I’m just excited to be a part of that, and be a Wolverine.”
