Shaved Ice – March 15

Good morning, everyone. Hope you have your dress clothes ready, it’s CCHA Awards Show night.

Quick hits

Well the Wings didn’t have the best time last night, losing 4-0 to the Ducks in a late-night tilt out in Anaheim. Detroit holds the fourth spot in the West, but Central Division foe Nashville is only two points back, and they have two games in hand. The Wings are seven points behind division and conference leader St. Louis. Yes, St. Louis…still trying to get my mind around writing that one.

Making matters worse for the Wings is that Nicklas Lidstrom has had a setback in his recovery to an ankle injury.

As noted earlier, it’s the CCHA Awards Show tonight. I’ll be there, trying to give everybody a play-by-play via Twitter and such. And yes, we’ll be there for all four games of the CCHA Championship weekend at the Joe, which starts tomorrow.

Highlight reel

Not worth putting the Red Wings highlights in here, so we’ll go with the latest edition of CCHA Now instead.

Outside the Mitten

They played together for Honeybaked. They now play together for the Vancouver Canucks. Obviously, the only thing left for David Booth and Ryan Kesler was to share our Michi-gamer nod for a night.

Sidney Crosby is expected to return to action tonight. Wonder how he’s going to be welcomed by the New York fans…

The NHL has cancelled next year’s European opening-weekend games. Sign of trouble as we inch closer to a summer full of CBA/potential lock-out talks?
