Shaved Ice – March 14

Good afternoon, hockey fans.  It’s a great time for hockey in the Mitten.  Staffer Brian Kalisher here, doing a line-change with editor Caples today.

Quick hits

The Red Wings dropped a 5-2 decision to the Los Angeles Kings last night on the road.  After beating the Kings at home last Friday, they simply couldn’t achieve that same outcome a few nights later.  Jiri Hudler and Johan Franzen nabbed goals for the Red and White squad, while the Kings’ Drew Doughty scored the difference-maker for his team.

The Wings will be playing past your bedtime tonight in Anaheim – they hit the ice at 10 p.m. to take on the Ducks.

As we’ve been mentioning, the CCHA playoff match-ups are set as we head into a weekend packed with college hockey.

Highlight reel

Look, it’s mid-week and the Red Wings lost last night.  Let’s stir up the highlight reel with a pretty funny video featuring actor Tom Hanks on an arena Kiss-Cam at a hockey game.  If you haven’t seen this already, take a look.

Outside the Mitten

Rookie plus-minus leader and Michigan alum Carl Hagelin had a great game for the New York Rangers, helping them post a 4-2 victory over Carolina.  He’s our Michi-gamer of the night.

Will Alexander Radulov return to the Nashville Predators?

Sidney Crosby is scheduled to return to game action tomorrow against the Rangers.
