Shaved Ice – Feb. 17

Good morning everyone. I hope you’re prepared for one great hockey weekend, as we celebrate hockey in the Mitten.

Quick hits

Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan may be tomorrow, but we’ve got hockey to pay attention to all weekend long. Here’s some bullet-points of things to pay attention to:

  • The Red Wings have Friday (Nashville) and Sunday (San Jose) home games. We’ll be there to bring you all the action.
  • Michigan welcomes Northern Michigan to Yost for a two-game series. The Wolverines will be trying to hold onto the third-place spot in the CCHA standings (or move up), while Northern is currently in a three-way tie for seventh place. We’ll have coverage of both games.
  • The Spartans welcome the Alaska Nanooks to East Lansing for a Friday and Saturday showdown. MSU is currently in the fifth spot in the CCHA, while Alaska is in 10th. And yes, we’ll have coverage of both games.
  • Top-ranked Ferris State welcomes last-place Bowling Green to Big Rapids. If they bring their A game, the Bulldogs can guarantee themselves the top spot in the regular-season standings.
  • Second-place Western Michigan heads up to Lake Superior. The Broncos will need a big weekend, as there are four teams behind them by four points or less.

Highlight reel

Here’s something to get you ready for Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan, and a fun weekend.

Outside the Mitten

Former Wolverines star Carl Hagelin, perhaps the most popular Swede in Michigan’s hockey scene that didn’t play for the Red Wings, is our Michi-gamer of the night.

Not only is it Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan, but it’s also Hockey Weekend Across America. Find out the details in the previous link, which takes you to USA Hockey’s official website page about the big weekend. Are you wearing a hockey jersey at work or school right now?

I don’t know if you take this as good news or bad news, but the Blackhawks finally won a game. They snapped a nine-game skid in the process.

A Canadian court has ordered Todd Bertuzzi to provide the details of a deal he had in place with former coach Marc Crawford about the Steve Moore incident.
