Shaved Ice – Nov. 17

Tonight is our photo shoot for the high school captains cover for the next issue of Michigan Hockey magazine, and HS games have already started. Who’s excited for another year of high school hockey?

Quick hits

Chris Stewart was given a three-game suspension for his hit on Niklas Kronwall. You can hear Brendan Shanahan’s reasoning for the suspension here. While I’m a big fan of what Shanny’s doing to discourage illegal checks, I have to say, I think Stewart should have gotten more games. I don’t like how during the punishment process, the lack of an injury to the player receiving the hit is taken into consideration. The offending player should be punished for the play, not for whether the other player escapes injury or not. Stewart’s hit was a dangerous play, and if Kronwall went into the boards differently, there could have been serious injury.

Highlight reel

Now that I’m done stating my two cents on something not very enjoyable, let’s watch something fun.

Outside the Mitten

The Blackhawks lit up the Canucks last night, scoring five unanswered goals for a convincing 5-1 win. The Wings will have to keep an eye on their division rival, because with the win, Chicago has the best record in the NHL, as it stands today.

The Islanders unveiled their new third jersey yesterday, and, well, jury’s still out on how they look – at least from this writer. What do you think about the new jersey?

Next up

The Wings have a late one tonight against the Sharks – only time will tell if I’ll be able to stay up for the whole 60 minutes of hockey.
