Ryan Bednard named WCHA goaltender of the week

Michigan teams were left off the WCHA players of the week list this go-round, but one of the Great Lakes State’s homegrown products was recognized.

Bowling Green netminder Ryan Bednard, a Macomb native, was named the conference’s goaltender of the week after backstopping his Falcons to a pair of wins over the last week.

Last Tuesday, he stopped 34 of the 36 shots sent his way to lead BGSU to a 6-2 road victory at Western Michigan.

On Sunday, the Florida Panthers prospect helped the Falcons rebound from a Friday night loss by blanking Robert Morris in a 6-0 shutout effort for BGSU’s home opener.

Bednard finished the weekend with a 1.00 goals-against average and .961 save percentage. It’s his third WCHA weekly award in the junior’s NCAA career.
