Red Wings assign Svechnikov, Hicketts to Grand Rapids

The Red Wings announced some roster reshuffling today, hours after completing the team’s third-to-last game of the 2017-18 season.

Detroit has assigned forward Evgeny Svechnikov and defenseman Joe Hicketts to Grand Rapids. The club has also returned goaltender Tom McCollum, who was called up on an emergency basis last night to back up Jimmy Howard due to Jared Coreau feeling ill.

Svechnikov, 21, appeared in 14 games during his call-up to Detroit. The 2015 first-round pick recorded two goals and two assists, along with eight penalty minutes and a -2 rating, during his stay.

Hicketts, 21, dressed for five games during his stay in Hockeytown. The free-agent signee recorded three assists, a +5 rating and two penalty minutes.

Both will have five games with the Griffins to settle in before Grand Rapids should begin a AHL playoff push (they haven’t clinched a postseason spot yet, but they’re close).
