Rochester native Christian Wolanin signs with Ottawa Senators

By @StefanKubus –

With his junior year at North Dakota now over, Christian Wolanin is moving up the ranks.

The Ottawa Senators announced Wednesday morning that they have signed the Rochester native and 23-year-old defenseman to a two-year, entry-level contract.

Wolanin, a fourth-round pick of the Sens in 2015, has spent the past three seasons with North Dakota, winning a national championship in 2016. He finished his career there with 72 points in 109 games from the back end, including career-highs of 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points in 40 games this final season.

Prior to his collegiate career, the 6-foot-1 Wolanin played two seasons of his junior hockey for the Muskegon Lumberjacks and much of his youth hockey with Little Caesars.

Wolanin is the son of former NHL defenseman Craig Wolanin.
