DETROIT – The FAR Flyers were able to watch the Red Wings practice Tuesday morning at Joe Louis Arena.

That would be enough for most hockey fans, but it was only the start to an incredible day for the special hockey team.

They were brought into the visitors’ locker room of The Joe after practice, where they were presented with Warrior sticks, matching equipment and matching bags – along with a visit from hometown hero Justin Abdelkader.

In need of testing out their new gear, the Flyers took to the ice shortly after the visit from the Wings’ No. 8 for yet another unforgettable moment for the day.

The once-in-a-lifetime experience was set up by the Wings, in honor of “Hockey is for Everyone Month” – a league-wide initiative to support diversity and inclusion in hockey for everyone.

The Flyers are a special needs team based out of Birmingham, providing the opportunity for players with physical or developmental disabilities to experience the game in a fun and safe environment.
