Bloomfield Hills native Peter Kessel has been spending the last few years of his hockey career in Texas.

Soon, he will be heading to Massachusetts.

The Honeybaked alum has committed to Holy Cross, and Kessel will compete in the Atlantic Hockey Conference in 2017-18.

“I picked Holy Cross because from day one I’ve had a great relationship with their coaches,” Kessel told MiHockey. “We’ve had multiple talks including one over break, where my parents got a chance to meet them as well. I also had a teammate on my team last year who is there and speaks very highly of everything Holy Cross has to offer.”

Kessel is in the midst of his third season with the Lone Star Brahmas of the NAHL; he has 21 goals and 14 assists for 35 points in 35 games. That point total is one off of his collective 36-point campaign in 60 games last year.

“I can’t be more happy for him,” Brahmas head coach Dan Wildfong said via the NAHL. “He stuck it out here and all the young guys that come think they are going to jump right in and he had to take a little longer route. I’m really proud of him. He’s one of the better players in this league, he’s proven it, they got a good player coming to them and I think he’s only going to get better.”

Kessel said he’s excited for what his college hockey opportunity has to offer.

“Overall both the school and the program put me in the best situation to grow as a player and a person.”
