The Red Wings’ Dec. 27 game against the Buffalo Sabres is serving as Detroit’s opportunity to salute the franchise’s Stanley Cup victory in 1997 – a championship that ended a 42-year drought for Hockeytown. Prior to an on-ice ceremony for the fans at Joe Louis Arena, Red Wings greats Steve Yzerman, Brendan Shanahan, Tomas Holmstrom and coach Scotty Bowman talked about the team’s first Stanley Cup championship season at Joe Louis Arena, and their memories in the historic building before the team moves to Little Caesars Arena.
