The Detroit Red Wings announced this morning that they have called up goaltender Jared Coreau to fill in for an injured Jimmy Howard.

Howard injured his right leg in last night’s loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning during a collision in the Red Wings’ crease with Nick Jensen and Erik Condra – the Wings announced that he is on seven-day injured reserve.

Coreau was called up in early December for Howard’s previous injury – he played in Pittsburgh on Dec. 3. That was Coreau’s NHL debut for the Wings; the Northern Michigan alum allowed four goals on 36 shots in a 5-3 loss.

In 17 appearances with the Griffins this season, Coreau has an 11-6-0 record with a 2.18 goals-against average and .924 save percentage.

Howard, meanwhile, was having a strong start to his 2016-17 season with the Wings. His 1.96 goals-against average and .934 save percentage on the season illustrate strong outings between the pipes despite a 5-7-1 record.
