The tightly-knit hockey world lost a member over the weekend.

University of Michigan-Dearborn freshman defenseman Ben McPartlin, a Trenton native, unexpectedly passed away Saturday at the age of 25.

McPartlin was a former Trenton High School player, as well, having been coached by longtime Trojans bench boss Mike Turner.

“He comes from a tremendous family,” Turner told Fox 2. “I coached his three brothers along with Ben, and it’s very difficult right now.”

McPartlin played junior hockey in Ontario for the Chatham Jr. Maroons before joining the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He also ran a player-development company called Michigan Top-Shelf Hockey with fellow Trenton teammate Cam Wojtala.

“On the ice, he was one of our leaders,” Turner said. “The kids looked up to him, his teammates. But off the ice, he was really a solid young man and he worked in the community.”
