The Detroit Red Wings announced today that a top prospect will be joining the team.

The Wings have recalled left wing Tyler Bertuzzi from Grand Rapids, while placing Thomas Vanek on long-term injured reserve.

Bertuzzi, 21, has four points in nine AHL games this year; he had 30 in 71 games last year with the Griffins.

He has shined for the Griffins in the playoffs the last two seasons, recording eight points in nine games in both campaigns.

Bertuzzi was a second-round pick of the Wings in the 2013 NHL Draft. He is the nephew of former Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi.

Meanwhile, Vanek’s long-term injured reserve assignment is retroactive to Oct. 25 – a lower-body injury turned out to be more severe than the Wings originally thought.
