With the holiday season among us, the Detroit Red Wings will be hosting a food collection drive on Sunday to help fight hunger.

The Wings announced Friday that they have partnered with Forgotten Harvest for the drive, which will take place during the Sunday, Nov. 20 home game against the Calgary Flames at Joe Louis Arena at 7:30 p.m.

All donations will benefit Oak Park-based Forgotten Harvest, which rescued over 40 million pounds of food last year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from more than 800 locations, from grocery stores and markets to restaurants and caterers. The food, which would otherwise go to waste, was delivered to more than 250 emergency food providers in the Metro-Detroit area.

Volunteers from Forgotten Harvest will be stationed at each of The Joe’s four entrances when doors open at 6 p.m. to accept donations and non-perishable food items. Canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, tuna and oats are some examples of acceptable food.
