Caleb Rule decided that he’s going to enter enemy territory for his college hockey career.

The Lansing native has verbally committed to Ohio State.

Scarlet and grey are familiar colors for Rule, however; despite it being a different sport, he’s a legacy recruit of sorts.

“I choose OSU because I always grew up a fan of them,” he told MiHockey. “My dad and uncle played golf there and my grandparents also went there. When I visited it felt like home to me. It was someplace I could see myself at in the future. So when Coach [Steve] Rohlik presented me with the opportunity to play there it was almost impossible to say no.

“It’s been a dream school of mine ever since I was young.”

Of course, Rule is no stranger to leaving the state for hockey – he’s spent the last four seasons at Shattuck St. Mary’s in Minnesota.

Rule was selected by the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL this past spring, as well, but he’s spending the year at the prestigious private school that has produced the likes of Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews and Jack Johnson.

He’s excited for his college opportunity when he’s ready – College Hockey, Inc. has him listed as starting with the Buckeyes in 2018-19.

“I like the direction the program is headed and think Coach Rohlik and Coach [Mark] Strobel are doing great things with the team,” Rule said. “As for playing for them in the future I couldn’t be more excited to throw on the Scarlet and Grey and hopefully make an impact on the organization.”
