A big decision has been announced by the Red Wings today.

Anthony Mantha has been sent to Grand Rapids as the club continues to adjust their roster heading into the 2016-17 season.

Additionally, the Wings have placed Niklas Kronwall on injured reserve.

Coach Jeff Blashill had previously said that Mantha or Andreas Athanasiou would be make the team for the start of the season.

Yesterday, the club put Teemu Pulkkinen on waivers with the intention of sending him to Grand Rapids to make space among the Red Wings’ forwards on the roster. The team will find out at noon whether he cleared waivers or not.

With today’s moves, the Red Wings’ roster currently stands at 24 players – and it will go down to the required 23 for the start of the season when Pulkkinen is removed.

Detroit currently has five players listed on IR – Tomas Jurco, Vili Saarijarvi, Niklas Kronwall, Dan Renouf and Tomas Nosek.
