The University of Michigan hockey program has announced a series of promotional events for the upcoming 2016-17 NCAA season, with plenty of items worthy of starring on the calendar for Wolverines fans.

Fans are invited to ‘Skate with the Wolverines’ following their exhibition season opener against the University of Windsor on Oct. 2 (puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m.).

The Wolverines will be holding an ALS Awareness Game on Saturday, Oct. 8 when they take on Union. Former Michigan hockey player Scott Matzka, himself battling ALS, will take part in a ceremonial puck drop with the support of his alma mater. The family of former Wolverine Jim Ballantine will be attendance, as the UM program remembers Ballantine after his life was cut short by ALS.

Michigan’s second Autism Awareness Game will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12 against Boston University. Audio levels inside Yost Ice Arena will be lowered to offer a more inclusive game day environment for fans on the Autism Spectrum.

Other promotional items of note – a LED light stick giveaway on Oct. 7 (Union) and Feb. 11 (Michigan State), the 1996 NCAA Championship Reunion celebration on Oct. 21 against Michigan Tech, and the annual Food Gatherer’s Canned Food Drive on Dec. 10 against Wisconsin.
