Last week, Paul Cotter announced his commitment to Western Michigan, marking another personal milestone for the Canton native.

The Compuware and Little Caesars alum is making his junior hockey debut this season with the Brookings (South Dakota) Blizzard of the NAHL, and now, he’s got the next step in his hockey career planned out, too.

It’s been an unexplainable experience so far with everything,” Cotter told MiHockey. “To think back to when I was younger stickhandling for three hours while watching NHL Network to now playing in South Dakota and knowing that I will be attending an amazing college is pretty awesome.”

The Canton native had plenty to say on why he decided to commit to Andy Murray and the Broncos’ hockey program.

“I picked Western because of a lot of reasons,” Cotter said. “First off the coaches, they are great coaches and most importantly great guys, the type that you can sit down and have a conversation with for 3 hours and laugh and be happy the whole time. I love the campus as well, it is very nice – it has a couple older buildings that shows some character, and some new buildings too, a perfect mix.”

He’s also excited for the change to play in front of the Lawson Lunatics.

“The fans and atmosphere throughout the town is great and there’s nothing better then playing a game where you know day in and day out the fans will be there for you. The ice rink to workout facility is just my type of living style.

“I am beyond excited and proud to be attending WMU.”
