Injuries are becoming of concern for the Red Wings, and training camp isn’t even underway.

Today, the NHLPA officially announced that Detroit captain Henrik Zetterberg will miss the World Cup of Hockey.

He’s the second Swedish Red Wing to pull out of the tournament – Niklas Kronwall has been removed from the international tournament, as well.

According to Dan Rosen of the NHL, Zetterberg hurt his knee training. The tweet from Rosen suggests Zetterberg will be ready for the start of the NHL season, which has been roughly the same sentiment surrounding Kronwall, as well.

Players who were slated to participate in the Wings’ training camp instead of the World Cup are battling injuries, too. Tomas Jurco has had surgery on his back as a result of an offseason training injury. Meanwhile, prospect Vili Saarijarvi needed surgery on his wrist after participating in the National Junior Evaluation Camp with Team Finland in Plymouth (more on both of those here).

Teemu Pulkkinen underwent shoulder surgery after the World Championships, also – that healing time was estimated at four to six months, which means he won’t be ready for the start of the 2016-17 season, either.
