Report: Aaron Ward says Datsyuk, Wings will announce No. 13’s departure on Saturday

According to former Red Wing and TSN analyst Aaron Ward, Pavel Datsyuk’s departure from the Red Wings will be announced tomorrow (Saturday).

Expect Detroit Red Wings to make announcement tomorrow along with Pavel Datsyuk confirming he will not be returning next year.

Datsyuk is reportedly meeting with Red Wings management this evening. That meeting was supposed to take place shortly after the conclusion of the World Championship, but was put on hold for Gordie Howe’s funeral.

The Wings’ superstar had stated in an interview with the Detroit Free Press’ Mitch Albom before the start of the playoffs that he was definitely returning home to Russia, then he backpaddled on that statement and said he needed more time to think about his future.
