The Red Wings announced today that they have signed a college hockey free agent.

The Original Six club has inked defenseman Dan Renouf to a two-year entry-level contract, starting in 2016-17.

Renouf has also signed an amateur tryout with Grand Rapids Griffins, and he will report to the Wings’ AHL affiliate for the rest of the 2015-16 season.

A native of Pickering, Ontario, Renouf just finished his junior season with the Maine Black Bears, leading the team’s blue line unit in scoring with 15 points in 38 games. The 21-year-old defenseman recorded 38 points, a plus-14 rating and 72 minutes in 111 NCAA games.
