Kyle Connor named national rookie of the month by Hockey Commissioners’ Association

The ‘player of the month’ awards keep rolling in for Michigan natives.

Next up, it’s Kyle Connor.

The University of Michigan freshman forward was named the national rookie of the month by the Hockey Commissioners’ Association today, after Connor’s impressive showings December.

Connor led the nation with seven goals and 13 points in six games during the final month of December, averaging an impressive 2.17 points per game. He registered at least one point in all six games, four of which were multi-point outings.

His most impressive showing came against Minnesota. On Dec. 11, Connor recorded his first collegiate hat trick, including the game-winning goal, in a 8-3 victory. The next night, he scored both of his team’s goals in a 3-2 loss.

After that, Connor was named Great Lakes Invitational tournament MVP after scoring the game-winning goal in the opener, and an assist in the title game against Michigan Tech.

Connor leads all NCAA freshmen in points per game (1.47), goals per game (0.71) and points (25). His overall average of 1.47 points per game this season is the most by a Michigan freshman since the 1979-80 season.
