If a report from TSN’s Bob McKenzie is true (and it almost always is), Justin Abdelkader’s going to be staying in his home state for quite a while.

McKenzie is reporting that the Red Wings and the Muskegon native are close to agreeing on a seven-year extension for No. 8, at an annual salary cap hit of roughly $4 million.

Abdelkader, 28, recorded a career-high 23 goals and 21 assists last year, after recording back-to-back ten goal campaigns between 2012-14.

A Michigan State and Grand Rapids Griffins product, Abdelkader is regarded as a top two-way forward for the Wings, and he has spent the majority of this season playing on Detroit’s top line with Henrik Zetterberg and Dylan Larkin.
