The Muskegon Lumberjacks will have a new owner when they start the 2015-16 season in a few months.

The USHL franchise has been purchased by Michigan resident Dan Israel, a source has confirmed to MiHockey. Israel and his brother, Bruce, own Asphalt Specialists, Inc. in Pontiac, Mich.

The Lumberjacks, who had their best season in franchise history in 2014-15 with a USHL Eastern Conference championship and first-ever Clark Cup Final appearance, were owned by Joel Friedman, Ronald Friedman, Chris Ferraro and Peter Ferraro.

That ownership group recently filed for bankruptcy for a rink that they owned in Eisenhower Park, N.Y.

The Lumberjacks were previously owned by Josh Mervis, who was responsible for the team’s arrival in the USHL in 2010. The Friedman/Ferraro group assumed control of the team in June 2013.

Per MLive.com, the plan is to keep the USHL franchise in Muskegon for the foreseeable future.
