According to George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press, one of the Griffins’ former Hobey Baker winners will not be coming back to the organization next year.

The longtime Free Press sports writer says that while a new offer has been extended to Grosse Pointe Woods native Andy Miele, the Griffins will not be pursing a new contract with Northville native Kevin Porter.

Miele, a Hobey Baker winner with Miami University, was named a first-team AHL all-star this past season after recording 70 points in 71 games for the Griffins.

Meanwhile, Porter, who won the Hobey Baker during his time at the University of Michigan, recorded 39 points in 76 games. He has played in a career 206 NHL contests, so perhaps a new organization can give him another shot at the highest level.

As Sipple notes in his article, with Dylan Larkin, Tyler Bertuzzi and Zach Nastasiuk all preparing for their first season of professional hockey, center is a crowded place in the Red Wings’ organization.
