The Detroit Red Wings have announced the coaching staff that will be supporting Jeff Blashill.

Joining Blashill will be returning coaches Tony Granato and Jim Bedard (goaltending coach) and new coaches Pat Ferschweiler, Chris Chelios and Dave Noel-Bernier.

The Wings’ Twitter is reporting that Granato and Ferschweiler will be behind the bench, Chelios will have ‘an increased role’ working with defensemen during practices, while Noel-Bernier will be the team’s video coach.

Ferschweiler, 45, was an assistant coach with Blashill at Western Michigan and also in Grand Rapids. The 2015-16 campaign will mark his second year in the organization. Previously, from 2004-10, Ferschweiler began his coaching career in a dual role as head coach and general manager of Russell Stover’s under-18 team in the Midwest Elite Hockey League, now known as the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League. He is also a Western Michigan alum, having played for the Broncos from 1990-93.

Noel-Bernier, 39, was also an assistant to Blashill behind the Griffins’ bench this past season. A Quebec native, Noel-Bernier played for Nebraska-Omaha in the CCHA from 1999-2001, and he also spent two seasons playing for the Muskegon Fury of the now-defunct United Hockey League.

A Hall of Famer and two-time Stanley Cup Champion with Detroit, Chelios has served as an advisor to hockey operations for the Red Wings since 2010-11 and has spent time in Grand Rapids mentoring the organization’s young defensemen. In his new role as a member of the coaching staff, Chelios will evaluate in-game player performance and offer his insight and observations to Red Wings bench coaches. He will also continue to play a role in player development, by working on-ice with the team’s defensemen during practices.
