Griffins announce six dates for 20th anniversary season home games

The Grand Rapids Griffins have a lot to look forward to next season, as the team will enter its 15th American Hockey League campaign – and 20th as a franchise – in 2015-16.

The home opener of the Griffins’ 20th anniversary season has been slated for Friday, Oct. 16 at Van Andel Arena, one of six home dates announced Monday morning.

Grand Rapids will also host their 19th annual New Year’s Eve game Thursday, Dec. 31, as well as a Saturday, Jan. 23 contest that will segue into the 2016 Great Skate Winterfest, an annual fundraising event for the Griffins Youth Foundation.

Home games on Jan. 9, Feb. 6 and Feb. 20 have also been announced to round out the preliminary schedule. Opponents and start times for all these games will be revealed when the AHL releases its master schedule for the upcoming season.
