2015 NHL Draft: Red Wings select Vili Saarijarvi in third round

The Red Wings’ second pick in the 2015 NHL Draft may appear to be from a foreign land, but he’s been playing rather close to Michigan.

Detroit selected defenseman Vili Saarijarvi in the third round (73rd overall) of the draft this morning. Saarijarvi, a native of Rovaniemi, Finland, played for the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL for the 2014-15 season.

The 5-foot-10, 163-pound defenseman – who is a right-handed shot – recorded 23 points in 57 games, along with 14 penalty minutes.
