There’s a project on Kickstarter that will certainly grab the attention of any hockey player or parent.

The people behind the ‘Sparx Skate Sharpener‘ are trying to bring skate sharpening into a hockey family’s living room (well, probably garage or basement).

The new machine, which has nearly doubled its fundraising goal on the popular crowd-funding Kickstarter site, is the size of a desktop printer, and it will automatically sharpen one’s hockey skates to any desired sharpness.

The catch, of course, is the price – a Sparx Sharpener and the required grinding ring and alignment tool are listed at a retail value of $599 on the Kickstarter page.

Would you spend that much on do-it-yourself skate sharpener?

With 241 backers pledging $116,309 for a $60,000 goal, the Sparx Skate Sharpener is already on its way.
