According to a report from USA Today, the Red Wings are actively pursuing hosting a World Juniors tournament.

Per lead hockey writer Kevin Allen (a Michigan native and resident), Red Wings officials are in Colorado Springs today to talk with USA Hockey officials about their new arena hosting the 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships.

The report reaffirms the assumption that with their new arena, Hockeytown will attempt to play host to top hockey events – the World Juniors being one of many that could come through Metro Detroit when the new Red Wings home barn is constructed.

It should be worth noting, as well, that USA Hockey should soon be officially acquiring Compuware Arena in Plymouth, and taking the two-sheet facility through some major upgrades (along with office space for USA Hockey employees).

This past World Juniors tournament featured games both in Toronto and Montreal. The last U.S. city to host the World Juniors was Buffalo in 2011.
