USA Hockey announced today that a local product will be returning to Michigan to coach with the National Team Development Program.

Tyler Walsh, an East Lansing native, will be serving as an intern assistant coach for the U.S. NTDP Under-17 Team this upcoming season.

Walsh, who most recently served as the director of hockey operations for Canisius College, is the oldest son of Shawn Walsh, former head coach at the University of Maine. He is also the grandson of Lake Superior and Michigan State coaching legend Ron Mason, and brother of Travis Walsh, currently a Michigan State defenseman.

During his time with Canisius as their director of hockey operations, Walsh was responsible for organizing the team’s video efforts, coordinating the team’s travel plans, assisting the coaching staff and compiling scouting reports on opponents.

Prior to his Canisius stint, Walsh spent three seasons as a student assistant coach and video coordinator for the Maine Black Bears. He also served as video coordinator for Team USA at the 2012 16U and 17U Select Festival.

Walsh also worked as an on-ice instructor for Maine and Michigan State summer camps, as well as helping with Holt High School.
