Per multiple reports (see MLive.com’s here), former Red Wing and Lansing native/resident Kevin Miller owes $1.1 million for a hit from behind in a Swiss pro league.

In 2000, Miller injured Andrew McKim in a championship contest with a hit that resulted in a lengthy hospital visit, a concussion and other injuries that led to the end of McKim’s career.

A Swiss court ruled that Miller had to pay $1.1 million as a result of the play and the injury. Allianz Suisse Versicherungs-Gesellschaft, the Swiss insurance company that was covering McKim at the time, brought the lawsuit to a U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids to make sure the enforcement of the original judgment in Switzerland was enforced.

Miller was suspended eight games for the hit by the National League Tribunal, as it was cited to be an “intentional or potentially malicious injury or attempted in jury.”

Miller was charged with malicious simple bodily injury and grievous bodily injury from the hit.
