Alpena’s Jasmine Grotto given USA Hockey’s Brian Fishman Internship

By Michael Caples –

USA Hockey announced their latest selection for their prestigious Brian Fishman Internship, and they’re reaching into Michigan once again.

The governing body for hockey in our country has selected Alpena native Jasmine Grotto as the 16th recipient of the internship, making her the fifth Michigan native to receive the post-graduation position.

With USA Hockey, Grotto will spend 12 months at USA Hockey’s national office in Colorado Springs, and 12 months with the National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor.

The Brian Fishman Internship has been presented annually since 1999 to a college graduate pursuing a career in athletic communications. It was created to honor the late Brian Fishman, who was the manager of communications and marketing for the NTDP before passing away on Jan. 7, 1999, at only 28.

“Being selected as the Brian Fishman Intern is a tremendous honor,” Grotto said. “I cannot thank the Fishman family and USA Hockey enough for this opportunity. I am excited to represent Brian’s legacy and get back to the game I’m most passionate about.”

Grotto will assist with various communication projects, promotions and publishing and work with USA Hockey Magazine as part of her internship.

A Wayne State graduate, Grotto worked with the Plymouth Whalers during the 2012-13 season as a marketing and game-night operations intern. She currently works with the Detroit Lions and for Major League Baseball’s Advanced Media.
