Michigan high school hockey state quarterfinal scores (Wednesday’s games)

The state semifinals are set.

After last night’s Division 1 and 3 quarterfinal showdowns, all the teams representing their schools at Compuware Arena have been decided. See the scores and the upcoming matchups below:

Division 1

Quarterfinal 1

Grandville 3, Grand Rapids West Catholic 2 – Grandville junior forward Gianni Vitali scored the overtime game-winner to send his team to the state semifinals at Compuware Arena on Friday.

 

Quarterfinal 2

Brighton 8, Bay City 0 – Brighton’s four-goal second period put them on the path to a 8-0 mercy at the 11:30 mark of the third period.

 

Quarterfinal 3

U of D Jesuit 5, Lake Orion 3 – Goals from Tommy Apap put the Cubs in the driver’s seat early, and they managed to build onto a lead to fend off a late rally from Lake Orion to advance to the state semfinals.

 

Quarterfinal 4

Detroit Catholic Central 5, Plymouth 2 – A hat trick from Domenic Mancinelli powered Detroit Catholic Central past Plymouth and give them a spot in the state semifinals at their home rink.

 

Friday’s state semifinal games at Compuware:

U of D Jesuit vs. Brighton – 5 p.m.

Grandville vs. Detroit Catholic Central – 7:30 p.m.

 

Division 3

Quarterfinal 9

Sault Ste. Marie 2, Houghton 1  – Sault Ste. Marie moves within one game of another shot at the title with their 2-1 win over Houghton.

 

Quarterfinal 10

Grand Rapids Catholic Central 2, Flint Powers 1 – It took six overtimes, but Joe Kopfensteiner finally found the back of the net to break a 1-1 tie and send his Grand Rapids Catholic Central squad to the state semifinals.

 

Quarterfinal 11

Farmington 3, Cranbrook 2 – In perhaps the biggest upset of the state tournament, Farmington found a way to beat No. 1-ranked Cranbrook, thanks in large part to 59 saves from goaltender John Lethemon.

 

Quarterfinal 12

Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central 4, Riverview Gabriel Richard 2 – Goals from Drew Antonelli, Elijah Owens, Shane Hughes and Robert Cicero sent SMCC past Gabriel Richard and onward to Compuware.

 

Friday’s state semifinal games at Compuware:

Sault Ste. Marie vs. Monroe St. Mary – 11 a.m.

Farmington vs. Grand Rapids Catholic Central – 1:30 p.m.
